You've lost quite a few fans with this one.

"Hey, fans without money, you are no longer cared about."

That's the impression I got.

It wasn't you becoming successful that has everyone upset. It's the fact that you screwed over the cartoon that we loved so much just to gain that success.
Adding stuff that didn't exist in the previous episode, just so you can say, "Buy the book and the comics to find out how I changed the story to get you to buy the books and the comics" is really disappointing. (Especially for us fans who barely have enough money to buy food, clothing, and pay for our studies, so we certainly can't afford the book/comics.)
Also, if you didn't have time to make a lengthy episode, take more time. Don't just release whatever animation you have done to get us to buy the books/comics. That's pretty lame.

I was a huge fan of Xombie. The name James Farr was usually at the top of my list for independent animators. I watched every episode within a few minutes of its release.
And that's why I'm kinda ticked. I feel like us fans of the toon just got thrown out the window to promote your other projects.

I know you're going to respond with, "I've got to make money."
But seriously, there are other ways to make money than to change your entire plot, destroy the toon, and toss all your fans just to sell a book.
There are TONS of animators making some good money off their movies. Have you considered:
Sponsorship
Donations
Merchandise (The kind that you advertise at the end of the movie, but don't screw the entire plot up to sell.)
All of the above?
Wait a minute. Don't you have all this? I seem to recall tons of people donating to the Xombie effort (back when you'd rather keep it the way it was than sell out). I recall a lot of people saying they bought your merchandise. And a sponsorship from Newgrounds, Flashportal, or one of the various other sites would be easy enough to obtain. Not to mention all the cash prizes you've won from Newgrounds (speaking of which, I don't think I'll be voting for this top of the month anymore; you're making enough money off your book without the $250 being top of the month gets).

Also, you could always get another job. You only release one of these every six to eight months anyway. You can't have been spending all that time making these.

One more thing, why was it so incredibly easy for him to get to the fortress despite how dangerous everyone made it out to be (just swung on a nail around all the defenses)? Or is this yet another thing changed for the book?

Oh, excellent!

Quality work! Either you're an extremely fast animator, or you spent a lot of time on this.
Incredible amounts of detail in every scene. You notice something new with every watch.
Was great. You got skills.
Keep it up.

Oh yeah, everyone who keeps saying all this "South Park will sue you" (which isn't legally possible), "you stole South Park's art style" (which technically isn't a legitimate accusation), and all this utter stupidity, please stop. You're making yourselves look like idiots.

First of all, you can't copyright a style. You can't sue someone for imitating your style. And you can't prove that you were the first one to draw that way in the first place.

Secondly, it's an incredibly simple style. Also, his differs from South Park in many ways. And how are you to know he hasn't been drawing in that style for years?
Many artists (including myself) have gotten a lot of flack cause our art style closely resemble the art style used by someone who appeared on the web before we did. We might've been drawing this way for a decade, but you people still insist on whining that we're "stealing" an art style (which is a retarded claim even if we were imitating them- all the greatest artists received at least a little influence from some other artist's works). And you have no way to prove that the original artist was the first person in all history to use that style (which I seriously doubt).

So please think before you speak.

Wow, Hans! You've got some skill. Looking forward to more from you. I really enjoy your style. You also seriously know how to compile a collab.

Luis was incredible. Of course, I'malways amazed by his stuff. He still holds a position in the top ten animators of Newgrounds in my mind.

Salute to Christiansen. Nice work there.
Major salute to Osaka. You've got some nice art. Your animation could be smoother, but it's still some beautiful work you got there.

Great work, everyone.

It earned a spot on my favorites list.

So you know it's got to be great.

As it started up, I sat there, slightly bored. The visuals were great, but not enough to keep me entertained. After all, you were just panning around.
The song started up and you through in a few bits of humor, and I was getting more into it.
I was just starting to think "Hey, this is pretty good" when all of a sudden he gets hit by a car.
Then I cracked up. Man I cracked up. The crew member rushing out to check on him. The mic dangling in front of the screen. Worried voices. All complemented by my laughter.

It was great, cause most people don't put so much time into the art for a quick joke like that, but the fact that you led up to that end with so much made it all the better.

Loved it.

ConAir responds:

Haha! Thank you so much - A few people thought putting so much effort into a short like this would be a waste but I'm glad you understand where I was coming from. Thanks for a great review!

Oh geez...

First off, you're breaking Newgrounds rules (yes, that's possible, even for you, Mathers).
Grossly inaccurately rated movies will be deleted. You set this submission up as "Appropriate for all audiences" (the equivalent of a G or PG rating on a film).
However, this movie would be rated R by MPAA standards. Excessive use of the 'f' word, flipping the middle finger, and other content hardly make this "Appropriate for all audiences". Perhaps appropriate compared to your normal submissions, which from what I here feature nudity, extreme sexual content, and useless violence for the sake of getting a few fives from the thirteen-year-olds.
However, this is a violation of NG rules. Reporting you would be useless though, cause Wade won't do anything about it.

Secondly, this was terrible. Didn't even give me the slightest grin. And when your sole objective is humor (you can't tell me you're trying to accomplish anything with those graphics), that's not good.
Try throwing in something... I don't know... funny, now and then. That might help.

Can't diss the graphics, cause you were obviously intentionally trying to make them awful.

Your scores are lowering, and though you don't care (you always get front page anyway), eventually you're gonna get blammed. And there's not return from that.

You really don't take any of the constructive criticism people have been offering, so why am I bothering?

Let me give you one piece of advice: Take a three year break from "animating". Go and practice a ton. Then, find a writer (one with a sense of humor preferably), come up with a new and original idea, and go through with it.
Of course, you'll have to get a real job during that three year period, but trust me, it'll be worth it.

Until then, your movies will always be complete garbage.

Cheers.

Loved it.

Nicely executed. Ended well.

The voice actor you got for that one police officer is Oscar-worthy.

Wow.

IT'S OVER!?!
Thousands of fans around the world just rose up and cried a "Noooooooo!" that would put Darth Vader to shame.

You've got a cinematic quality series here. Incredible work.
Keep it going.

I want more. Give it to me.

Get-lost responds:

It's not over. Just takes a while for next part ;)

Thanks

I loved every single minute of watching it.

I actually laughed aloud at many parts. Many of them with the boss. Good lines and a good actor.

Tons of cheese, lots of ketchup, but no burger.

Well it was certainly emo and blood-filled. Of course, that's what you were going for.
However, rather than making me feel the "despair" and "depression", it just bored me to death.

The dialouge was incredibly cheesy.
"Would it be cliche, if I told you I loved you?"
No, but that question was pretty retarded.
The whole conversation was incredibly lame.
The acting was also sub-par.
I suggest you work on that.

For constructive criticism on the art, work on it.
Spend more time on your drawings.
Smooth things out a little. This was really rough.
I'd also recommend working on your colors. Often, a dull gray palette can convey incredible feeling, if done correctly. This wasn't the case here.

Most of all, I'd recommend CUTTING THE EMO.
Not actually cutting them. No, we got enough of that. SCENE AFTER SCENE of people cutting themselves. Lots of blood. Not fun.
Cut the emo from the movie. You can express a tragedy in a relationship caused by death without having to go THAT EXTREME.

Though the movie is pretty freaky, and I'm personally not a big fan, I'd recommend you check out "Hanged Man's Elegy".
That movie does this sort of thing best.
The animator captures the darkness and tragedy, keeps it feeling twisted and bizarre, while providing something that doesn't feel like the 2007 LA Emo-Cutters Convention.

And try to add a little more actual animation.

Filmpiegang responds:

This wasn't really meant to be emo, since that's not my thing at all but I get why people think it is. In fact I was afraid that alot of people would not like it because they thought it was emo.
It's true that I might have overdone certain parts since I was really experimenting with style and ways to express the darkness of the storyline.
I myself really like the Hanged Man Elegancy movie, it was one of the reasons I started experimenting with a darker style.
Anyway, thanks for the review.

This is what Flash is all about.

You're definitely one of the best flash artists out there.
This was so flawless.

And Egoraptor did great on the voices.

Ahhh. It's just so great.

Never stop making movies.
